With a white border there are seven colored veneras in it. The veneras were associated with the beaches of Galicia where Santiago de Compostela was, was therefore the symbol of the pilgrim who had visited Holy Lands. 1562: A strong earthquake totally destroys Santiago, next to other Spanish colonies between which was Conception of the Vega. The city is re-established on the banks of the Yaque River, where it is currently located .. 1660: Santiago is sacked and burned by the pirate Fernand de la Fleur. 1690: The city defends itself victoriously, against the French located in the western portion of the island in the battle of "The Lemonade" 1775: An earthquake affects Santiago. 1783: An earthquake affects Santiago. 1805: The massacre of Moca and Santiago at the hands of Haitian troops. It is estimated that 25,000 Dominicans were executed at the hands of Haitian troops, this is a frighning number considering that the Dominican population of the time didn't reached 80,000 souls. 1822: Santiago is occupied by the Haitian troops, every progressive progress is stopped for 22 years 1842: Strong earthquake affects the city of Santiago, great part of its population dies. 1844: Santiago is the site of the famous battle carried out on March 30, in which the numerically disadvantaged Dominican troops defeat the Army of the North Haitian commanded by the General Pierrot, consolidating thus the Dominican Independence proclaimed the 27 of February of the same year 1857: Political movement directed by Valverde, Rojas, Espaillat, Bono etc., in which Santiago is declared capital of the Republic, in a revolutionary action of high principles. 1863: September 6, Santiago is totally destroyed fighting against the Spanish troops besieged in the Fortress San Luis 1863: September 14, after being burnt down and destroyed almost entirely to expel the Spaniards from it, Santiago is declared capital of the Restoration Government in the Restoration Wars of Independence. 1865: End of the War of Restoration of the Independence, expulsion of the Spaniards from the Dominican Republic. 1897: August 16, Inauguration of the Dominican Central Railway Stgo-Puerto Plata, which efficiently links Santiago, heart of the Cibao with its Puerto Plata natural harbor 1915: Inauguration of the Company of Water and Light, Aqueduct and electric power 1995: Quincentennial of the Foundation of Santiago.

Three of the four sisters (Patria, Minerva, María Teresa) were assassinated on 25 November 1960. The last sister, Dedé, died of natural causes on 1 February 2014. The assassinations turned the Mirabal sisters into "symbols of both popular and feminist resistance". The name of Cruz was due to the fact where Doña Francisca lived, on the road that connected the towns of Las Palomas and La Reina. Their is a monument currently in the town in honor of Maria Francisca Jorge.
